This vintage 28-page module, Descent Into the Depths of the Earth was authored by Gary Gygax and was published by TSR in 1981. Without a doubt, this is one of the classic adventure modules that defined Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. People are still talking about this series of adventures 40 years later.

Gary was one of the two creators, along with Dave Arneson, of the Dungeons and Dragons game system. If Gary authored the adventure, you could be assured of a true challenge. Perhaps a TPK or two along the way.

Set on Oerth, the World of Greyhawk, this excellent adventure continues the Giant series of modules (G1-G2-G3) and will challenge characters of levels 9 to 14. This is an epic series of modules that really expanded players' perceptions of how flexible Dungeons and Dragons could be.

I have experienced this series as both a player and Dungeon Master and truly look forward to running it again, one of these years. So many games, so little time.

EASTER EGG ALERT!!!! 

If you look closely at the black and white Bill Willingham illustration on the cover of the adventure book, you can see the drow have been very industrious. In the chest, you will notice Captain America's shield, Iron Man's helmet, and Spider-Man's logo on the chest. Willingham was also an illustrator for comics and was obviously heavily influenced by them.

This material was originally published as two separate modules, D1 (DESCENT INTO THE DEPTHS OF THE EARTH) and D2 (SHRINE OF THE KUO-TOA). Contained herein are referee notes, background information, maps, and exploration keys intended for use with the ADVANCED DUNGEONS & DRAGONS rules. The module can be used alone or as a part of an extended adventure that begins with Dungeon Module G-1-2-3 (AGAINST THE GIANTS) and continues with modules D3 (THE VAULT OF THE DROW) and Q1 (QUEEN OF THE DEMONWEB PITS).

Condition

This adventure is in Good to Very Good condition. The outer cover is in Good condition showing the heaviest wear. The rest of the module is in Very Good condition showing light wear.

As usual, the outer cover is scuffed, there is moderate corner rounding, creasing along the fold, and edgewear. The fold is a bit frayed and has separated about a 1/4 inch at the bottom. There is a tiny spot and a stray pencil mark on the map. Still very sturdy. The inner cover is in Very Good condition showing moderate wear. There is edge wear, creasing along the fold, and corner rounding. The adventure book is in Very Good condition. The corners and edges show some wear. The pages are a little grey with age but most pages are clean and white. The module is in great playing shape and is ready to introduce another group of lucky (unlucky?) adventures to the wonders and horrors of the Underdark!
